A few more of Baby A

Here are a few more pictures of Baby A. We didn't have a lot of time for this session since it was 4:30 pm and the light was beginning to fade, plus we had 3 bigger kids in the next room begging for our attention. We had to be quick, but Sweet Baby Boy cooperated perfectly and gave us at least a few great shots. He's such a cutie!

Happy Easter!

Baby A

Another perfect newborn!

I dream about someday having a studio to photograph newborns, stocked with lots of fun props and backdrops. But honestly, even if I had a complete studio with dozens of props to choose from, I think I would still take a lot of pictures just like this:

There's just something amazing about the simple beauty of a newborn baby. I love it.

More to come of this sweet little boy...

Baby L

I remember not that long ago when my friend walked in to our Bible study group and told us she had just found out she was pregnant. Fast forward a few months and here's her beautiful baby girl. How could you not be amazed at this little miracle?

I've decided that I could easily become addicted to photographing newborns. The problem with this, however, would be that it would make me want to have at least a dozen more babies. Occupational hazard, I guess. Baby L did great, slept almost the whole time, and made this session so much fun for me. Sweet, beautiful baby girl. Such a tiny person, such a huge miracle.

Blue Eyes and Sunshine

This weekend I got to spend a beautiful, sunny afternoon with another great friend and her fabulous family. Getting 3 kids and a husband ready for family pictures is no small task, and it kind of amazes me that people trust me enough to believe that the pictures I take will be worth the effort it took to get there. So thanks for believing in me and letting me photograph your family! I had a lot of fun with these people because, well, they're just super fun people.

I love this last picture. This is what family is all about - living life together, but as individuals. It just makes me smile.

This Beautiful, Covenant Child

A few weeks ago I sat in the front row for the baptism of the daughter of one of my very favorite friends. I love witnessing a baptism at our church. It's always a beautiful picture of God's faithfulness, His covenant, and the mysterious way that He chooses to work through families. It's also a sobering reminder of the responsibility we have as parents - a responsibility to point our kids to Jesus in every thing we do. Not by being perfect, but by being real, transparent, and humble about our own faults and shortcomings. But I have to admit, as I sat there watching this beautiful little girl be baptized, besides thinking about the spiritual implications of the moment, I also found myself imagining how spectacular she would look in her gorgeous gown in front of a black back drop. I guess that's a sign that I've spent too much time lately behind the lens of my camera. Fortunately, this past week I got the chance to put her in front of that black back drop and photograph her. And of course, she looked amazing. Here she is wearing her beautiful gown that was hand made with lots of love by her sweet grandmother:

I love this next picture because this expression is her signature look. Those bright blue eyes are always busy taking in and absorbing everything around her. I'm pretty sure this baby girl is already smarter than I am!

Oh, those beautiful blue eyes. SO much deep thought is going on behind those eyes!

The gown was fun, but by the end of our time together she was ready to be her sweet little natural self.

I'm so glad I got to be there for her special day, and I'm glad that we got to capture these images of her that will last forever. I believe it's true that God works through families, and this little one is especially blessed to be born in to one of the most amazing families I know. May God shine His gracious face upon you, sweet little girl!

Snakes and Baby Girls

A few more pictures from Saturday morning at Edwin Warner Park. This pretty girl is just dreamy to photograph. She sat still and gave me sweet, shy smiles in every pose. Except for the giant, scary snake who wanted to hang out a little too close to us, we had a great morning together. Next time I'll be sure to bring my snake repellent!

Spring Sweetness

Today I spent a beautiful morning with this little sweetie pie. She was a perfect, and I mean perfect, little model. She may have actually made it too easy for me! We got a lot of great shots, but here's a quick preview for her equally sweet mom to enjoy!

Cutie Pie

This is a good friend's little girl who I photographed a few weeks ago. It was still chilly outside, so we opted for an indoor session. Here are a few of my favorites of this little cutie pie...

She was very serious. There are so many important things to think about when you're a baby!

One of the fun things about photographing my friends' kids is watching them change and grow. I knew this little girl's family before their second child was born, and here I am today photographing their third baby, who looks exactly like their second baby, who looked an awful lot like their first baby. I've been really happy to watch this special family grow over the past few years!

Spring Fever

Yesterday I had a great time photographing my beautiful, pregnant friend and her handsome, energetic little boy. It finally felt like spring here in Nashville, and this little guy was so excited to be outside. He was too busy throwing rocks in the water and playing with sticks to stop and smile for me, but he gave us a perfect glimpse in to the life of a 2-year old boy who's been cooped up inside all winter. I think we're all glad spring has finally arrived!

Here are a few highlights from our morning together:

/>My friend is about to enter in to a very exciting phase of life. Not only is she a few weeks away from meeting her second baby boy (oh boy!), but she's also less than 3 months away from finishing residency. Hurray! That deserves a HUGE congratulations!

Real Life

One thing I love about photography is being able to capture the every-day moments of life. Sure, it's great to have that family portrait in a beautiful field of green grass where you're all looking directly at the camera and even your most challenging child is smiling angelically. But some day you'll look back on that picture and think, "Who IS that perfect-looking, well-dressed family?" Although I do love to take pictures of happy, smiling, perfect-looking families, I also love to capture the moments when perhaps your child is not on her best behavior. These are the faces you'll remember - the expressions you see often and have learned to love simply because they belong to a child you love. My own little angel gave me one of those faces today, and I know that 20 years from now I'll still love this picture...

IMG_6502 web resize

Then 30 seconds later she was ready to give me this expression. This is real life, and I want to savor every minute of it - every pouty, grumpy, smiley, silly, and beautiful expression of it...
